Happy Thanksgiving!!!~~~~~Susie Austin

The Pilgrims made seven times more graves than huts. No Americans have been more impoverished than these who, nevertheless, set aside a day of thanksgiving. H U Westermayer

The earliest Thanksgiving events were held in the British Colonies, at Berkeley plantation in Virginia in 1619 and at Plymouth in present day Massachusetts in 1621.

The day the settlers arrived in Berkley was observed as a day of thanks to God! “Wee ordaine that the day of our ships arrival at the place assigned for plantacon in the land of Virginia shall be yearly and perpetually keept holy as a day of thanksgiving to Almighty God.” Were words spoken by Captian John Woodleaf.

The pilgrims in Massachusetts set aside a holiday after their first harvest in 1621 with celebration of food and praising God.

National Thanksgiving Proclamations proclaim thanks for God’s providence in the events of the nation and, as President Washington explained in his Thanksgiving Proclamation, “for the many signal favors of Almighty God” in the lives of the people.

President Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday in November a “prayerful day of Thanksgiving: observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.

Since then every U.S. President has always made an official Thanksgiving Proclamation on behalf of the nation.

I have been reflecting on what it must have been like in those days of great hardship as well as tremendous excitement and pride as they had discovered the new world! In every aspect of their lives never did they forget to praise God! The word God and the spirit of God is everywhere!

Thanksgiving is a time to be near family and friends and be grateful for all we have been given. Reflect on your life today and what you have to be grateful for. Please do not forget what God has done in your life and give him the credit he deserves. I have hopes that God will remain in our holidays and we who believe this will have no problem doing so.

My wish is for everyone to live in peace, and enjoy this holiday on earth daily giving thanks for all that is given to us!
