Answer Anger With Kindness~~~Susie Austin

“Kind words can be short

and easy to speak

but their echoes are

truly endless.”

Mother Theresa

I have been on a mission over the last couple of years to not raise my voice in my home, to attempt to answer anger with kindness. Have I been successful all the time? Absolutely not, however I have been much better than in the past because I am aware of it.

The concept of doing something nice for someone who doesn’t like you or has something against you is a very difficult task to grasp. Our natural instinct when someone is angry or hateful is to retreat or fight back. I have had many conversations with angry people and have found the kinder I am the easier it is for them to calm down and usually they are angry out of frustration or difficult circumstances. I found many are hurting and in pain and with a little compassion and kindness on my part it can be life changing to others who are suffering. This has been a very important life lesson in which you should consider adapting and see how it can work in your own life.

There is a simple rule for behavior; Ask your self what you would want people to do for you, then take the initiative and do it for them.  It is easy to love the lovable; we are told to love our enemies. Help and give without expecting anything in return.

The next time someone responds to you with anger react with kindness and see what happens. I know this is not easy but see how it makes you feel. Practice this, it will make you a better person but more importantly you will be a positive role model to those around you.

  1. When you quarrel with others-even if you win the argument-you place a great deal of unnecessary stress upon yourself. It is impossible to maintain a Positive Mental Attitude when you allow negative emotions such as anger or hate to dominate your thoughts. No one can upset you or make you angry unless you allow them to do so.
