Don’t Get Stuck in the Negative~~~Susie Austin

You can’t expect to prevent negative

 feelings altogether. And

you can’t expect to experience

 positive feelings all the time.

The Law of Emotional Choice

directs us to acknowledge

our feelings but also to refuse

to get stuck in the negative ones.

Greg Anderson

Feelings would be considered an emotion; we express these emotions good and bad throughout our entire day. How are you feeing today? Do you feel like going to lunch, I feel stressed or I feel awesome are expressions we use every day. How do we learn to acknowledge our positive emotions without getting stuck or dwell on the negative ones?

I had a great group discussion on this subject yesterday and consensus was this; negative feelings and emotion will happen wherever you are. How we react to this is what makes us who we are, one of the most difficult things to do is walk away and be done with it.

Think of an example in your own life, maybe a coworker or good friend is talking about you in a negative way; do you talk to someone else about this? Do you vent to others and when you do feed the negative emotion and it continues? This is very human and can be extremely easy to fall into this trap without even knowing it.

The key here is to be aware and recognize your own behavior. When we stay focused on a problem we exaggerate it. We must develop the skill to walk away and release all negative thoughts from our minds. This is not an easy task however it is possible and can be accomplished if we are aware of it, and we make steps in a positive direction. Life is a process and every day we get chances to learn and master we did not finish yesterday. We make progress every day, and we look to the future with much hope.

When the negitave surrounds you try to find the bright spot and focus on it until your in a better place. Stay in your happy place and when you are tempted to spread the negitive remember to just walk away and while your doing this put a smile on your face! It is a great feeling to walk away from it. Enjoy your day!
