Twenty years from now you

 will be more disappointed

by the things that you didn’t do

than by the ones you did do.

So throw off the bowlines.

Sail away from the safe harbor.

Catch the trade winds in your sails.

Explore. Dream. Discover.

–Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain)

Today I would like you to go back twenty years.  If you can not go back twenty years, ask someone older than yourself these questions. Are you more disappointed by the things you did or did not do twenty years ago? This does not mean would you change anything because most of you would say of course I would. Remember the old saying “if I knew then what I know now”? I actually would not because it is the life lessons, the bad and the good that define and mold us into who and what we are today.

Make a list of the things you have accomplished and things you would like to accomplish in the future. Which one is longer?  Do you take pride in the accomplishments thus far in your life? How many things are on the things uncompleted list? How about making a plan to move forward in this area and begin to realize your dreams. If you have forgotten how to dream or are stuck in the, I am a dull boring person phase of your existence.  I suggest you find something to motivate you to into the next twenty years.

Most of us should have a good twenty years left in us. Make a twenty year plan and add all the things you would like to accomplish or a reasonable version of this. I know this is long range but I would also like you to add something to be accomplished in a day, a week, a month, six months, one year and all the way to twenty. Visit this list often and revise as needed. You may find once you have started sailing, the realization of dreams will come easier. Sense the wind in your face and notice the beauty that surrounds you today!

Dare to dream, begin to explore and discover who you really are!
